Cross-Disciplinary Laboratory Studies of Astrochemistry and Solar System Materials | 9:00-12:00 Chair:尚賢 物理館一樓 124教室 Physics Building (1F) Room 124 | 陳俞融 (中央大學物理系) Yu-Jung Chen (Department of Physics, National Central University) 葉永烜 (中央大學天文所) Wing-Huen Ip (Graduate Institute of Astronomy, National Central University) | Laboratory studies of astrochemistry in star forming regions, the interstellar medium, and Solar System materials have been on the rise to the forefront of cross-disciplinary research in Astronomy and Astrophysics. They lie at the crossroads and involve innovative applications of the many cutting-edge instruments developed for traditional areas of physics: condensed matter, atomic and molecular, surface, material, accelerators, photonics, and so on. On the other hand, the traditional study of meteorites and solar system materials has utilized a different set of platforms and methodologies. In this topical symposium, we aim to raise community awareness of cross-pollination among the diverse disciplines of the physical sciences and the field's future impact. Synchrotron radiation is a powerful tool in laboratory studies of a number of important topics in astronomy and planetary science ranging from the hot chemistry in interstellar icy grains that might be associated with the formation of complex organic molecules to isotopic fractionation. Furthermore, the X-ray sources are indispensable in probing the three dimensional structures of the nano-sized grains in meteorites and dust samples collected from the Moon and asteroids. In this session, the results from research projects carried out at the National Synchrotron Radiation Research Center will be summarized with a view to assess how a pioneering interdisciplinary program in laboratory astrobiology and astrochemistry essential to the understanding of origin of the solar system and the production of prebiotic materials (i.e. tholins) in the atmosphere of Titan and comets might be established by linking the NSSRC facility with advanced instruments, Raman, TEM, SEM, EDS, EPMA, TEM, and NanoSIM. |
